Blues Twilight Review
Midwest Record-CHRIS SPECTOR
You can only wade through so many of these cats
that like to crow how they play in the tradition of… Boulger doesn’t crow about
it, he just does it, and he doesn’t use it a as a crutch to cover his own
shortcomings. And he might play like one of the past masters and icons, but he
doesn’t try to play like them, he has a distinguishable style that clicks in
with you quickly. This set has the feel and vibe of a lot of the stuff that was
coming out around the time of “Kind of Blue”, but it stands on it’s own today.
Very much a killer player that knows what he’s doing and does it right, Boulger
is simply a great discovery waiting to happen. Trumpet fans haven’t had a cat
like this to rally around for a while.
